Description
About this event
Three hours to put the week down.
You’ll start lying in a hammock, suspended and weightless, eyes closed, while the sound moves through the room around you. Nothing is asked of you for 20 minutes. Then you’ll come back down to a table with a wooden round in front of you, and dot a mandala onto it one colour at a time until it’s finished and it’s yours.
We’ve partnered with Nitya Sadhana Yoga & Movement for this one. Shuchi Shah leads the sound bath in her aerial studio, and Palak guides the mandala.
No experience needed for either half. You don’t need to know how to meditate — you lie there, and that’s the whole instruction. And you’ve never needed to be able to draw to dot a mandala. It’s dots, placed slowly, and the pattern does the work for you.
Everything is included: your hammock, your 6-inch wooden round, paints, dotting tools, aprons and instruction throughout. You’ll leave with a finished piece you made yourself.
18 spots. Sunday afternoons like this one don’t come around often, and the hammocks are set per person — so this one is pre-registration only.

Rest First, Create Second: Before You Come
- Arrive 10 minutes early. The hammocks take a minute to settle into, and the sound bath starts at 1:15 sharp.
- Wear fitted, comfortable layers — something that covers your underarms and the backs of your knees, so the hammock fabric doesn’t pinch. Skip anything with zippers or metal fittings.
- The hammock portion is barefoot or in socks.
- Pre-registration only — no drop-ins, because each hammock is set per person.
- Free parking in the building lot.

Most Common Questions
Do I need any experience?
None, for either half. Most people arriving have never done a sound bath or a dotting mandala before.
What is a sound bath, exactly?
You lie still with your eyes closed while singing bowls and chimes are played around the room. You don’t do anything — that’s the point of it. Most people describe it as somewhere between deep rest and a nap you stay awake for.
I've never been in a hammock. Is that okay?
Yes. You’re lying in it, not doing aerial yoga — it’s closer to a cocoon than an exercise. Shuchi will show you how to get in and out, and if you’d rather stay on the floor, that’s completely fine.
What am I painting on?
A 6-inch round wooden circle, ready to hang or stand once it’s dry.
Can I come on my own?
Lots of people do. The first hour is quiet anyway, so coming solo is easy here.
Do I need to bring anything?
No. Everything is provided — hammock, wooden round, paints, dotting tools and apron.
Will my mandala be dry enough to take home?
Acrylic on wood is touch-dry in about an hour, so yes — you’ll take it with you.
Is cleanup on me?
No, we handle all of it.
